More InfoMorro de São Paulo is the third popular tourist destination in Bahia. On the island there are Brazilian, Argentinian, and European tourist. During peak season from november till february there are many events with live music. You will find backpackers and families relaxing on the beaches enjoying a cold drink. There are only 2 ATM machines on the island and many times they are empty in high season or when wages are paid. You better take some money with you, you can not always pay with a creditcard on a hidden beach!
How to get to the island Morro de Sao Paulo?! You can reach Morro de Sao Paulo with a small plane from salvador (expensive option), with a direct Catamaran ferry boat from Salvador, with a bus and ferry from Salvador or take a ferry boat from Valença when you come from Ilheus or Itacare.
The first and most expensivie option is to go by plane from Salvador with Addey Air Taxi.
The second option is to go transfer semi-terrestre from Salvador to Morro de Sao Paulo. That means a route mostly over land by comfortable bus and two small boat trips, this is organized by Cassi Turismo. This route takes 2 hours longer than with a Catamaran, but best in case of bad weather or late arrival. Cassi Turismo has a travel desk at International Airport Salvador and 50 meters in front of Terminal Náutico da Bahia where also the catamarans to Morro de Sao Paulo leave. Cassi Turismo is the best option if you arrive after 13:00 at Salvador Airport cause the last catamarans leave around 14:30 and it can take 1 - 3 hours with an Uber to the catamaran ferry terminal. You can take the Cassi Turismo bus from the airport or at their travel agency in front of the Terminal Nautico Bahia.
If the weather is good the third option is the nicest and fastest way and go by catamaran to the island of Morro de Sao Paulo. Book a ticket for the catamarans to Morro de Sao Paulo at Terminal Náutico da Bahia. This terminal is located about 400 meters from the famous elevator in Pelourinho, it is behind the famous Mercado Modelo. They have tickets for all boats and you can also buy them in advance, what is best if you first explore Salvador. I prefer Cassi Turismo over land and Biotur for the big catamaran cause the small can shake more on the waves. Catamaran Morro de Sao Paulo: Catamarã Biotur , Catamarã Ilha Bela , More Info
The fourth option is to go to the town of Valença and take the slow or fast (40 minutes) ferry to Morro de Sao Paulo. You can walk from the busstation to the ferry (20 minutes). This is the best option if you are coming from the direction of Ilhéus or Itacaré. There are also private parkinglots to park your car a few days in nearby streets.
